Over a Third of Brits Save Money by Booking Travel Shows
Over a Third of Brits Save on Travel Shows

A recent survey conducted by The Travel Show has found that over a third of Brits (34%) have saved money by attending travel shows, with the average saving amounting to £200 per trip. The research highlights how these events are becoming an increasingly popular way for UK residents to plan and book their holidays.

Rising Popularity of Travel Shows

The survey, which polled 2,000 UK adults, revealed that travel shows are not just for inspiration but also for securing better deals. Among those who have attended, 42% said they booked a holiday at the show itself, while 28% used the information gathered to book later but still saved money. The most common savings came from discounted packages (56%), free extras like upgrades or excursions (34%), and exclusive show-only offers (29%).

Demographics and Spending Habits

The research also broke down the demographics of show attendees. The 35-44 age group was the most likely to have saved money (41%), followed by 45-54 year olds (38%). In terms of region, Londoners topped the list with 39% reporting savings, while those in the North East were least likely (28%). On average, attendees spent £1,200 on their trip after visiting a show, but the £200 saving made a significant difference.

Impact on Holiday Planning

According to the survey, travel shows are influencing how Brits plan their holidays. 37% of respondents said they felt more confident about their booking decisions after attending a show, and 31% discovered destinations they hadn't previously considered. The shows also provide access to experts, with 45% of attendees saying they valued the opportunity to ask questions directly to travel specialists.

Industry Response

The Travel Show's director, Sarah Johnson, commented: "Our findings show that travel shows are a fantastic resource for savvy holidaymakers. Not only do they offer exclusive deals, but they also provide valuable information that helps people make informed choices. It's no surprise that more Brits are turning to these events to get the most out of their holiday budget."

Future Trends

With the cost of living continuing to rise, the trend of using travel shows to save money is expected to grow. The survey indicated that 22% of non-attendees are considering visiting a travel show in the next year, primarily to find deals. The Travel Show plans to expand its events across the UK to meet this demand, with new venues in Manchester and Edinburgh already confirmed for 2024.
