Halifax Customers Must Update Details Ahead of Major Visa Card Switch
Millions of Halifax banking customers across the UK are being urged to take immediate action to prepare for a significant change to their credit cards that will occur within the coming weeks. The Lloyds Banking Group, which owns Halifax, has confirmed that it is transitioning its credit card portfolio from Mastercard to Visa in a major partnership expansion.
Major Migration of Credit Cards to Visa
In a recent email communication sent directly to customers, Halifax has officially announced that Visa will become its new credit card partner. This strategic move means that eligible customers will receive a new Visa credit card to replace their existing Halifax Mastercard in the very near future. The bank has emphasised the importance of ensuring all personal contact details are current to facilitate a smooth transition.
Ellie Watkins, a representative from Lloyds Banking Group, provided further context, stating: "Visa will continue to provide all Lloyds Banking Group's consumer and business debit cards, including over 30 million Visa credentials already in issue, as well as the majority of consumer and commercial credit cards with around 10 million cards migrating to Visa by the end of 2026."
Critical Steps for Customers to Avoid Disruption
To prevent any potential disruption to their banking services, Halifax customers are being strongly advised to verify and update their contact information without delay. The bank has specified that customers should ensure their registered email address, home address, and mobile number are accurate and up-to-date.
Customers can conveniently update these details through Halifax's online banking platform or via the official mobile banking application. Furthermore, the bank has confirmed that customers with a registered mobile number will receive a text notification when their new Visa card is dispatched, providing additional peace of mind during the transition period.
Enhanced Benefits and Future Innovations
Marc Lien, Managing Director of Credit Cards at Lloyds Banking Group, highlighted the advantages of this expanded partnership, explaining: "Our expanded partnership with Visa brings significant benefits to our customers, offering a seamless way to make payments, in addition to a range of upcoming innovative new products and services. We look forward to sharing the detail of these with customers in the future."
The migration is expected to enhance customer experience by leveraging Visa's advanced fraud prevention capabilities and providing improved management of financial and lifestyle needs. This transition represents one of the most substantial credit card migrations in recent UK banking history, affecting a vast number of Halifax account holders nationwide.
With the deadline for the complete migration set for the end of 2026, this initial phase in the coming weeks marks a crucial period for customers to ensure their banking details are correctly registered to receive their new Visa credit cards without interruption to their daily financial activities.
