National Lottery Digital Platforms Remain Offline Following Weekend Outage
National Lottery App and Website Still Down

Players across the United Kingdom are facing continued frustration as The National Lottery's digital platforms remain inaccessible, with both the official website and mobile applications still offline following a scheduled weekend maintenance period.

Extended Service Disruption Affects Thousands

The national-lottery.co.uk website, along with the iOS and Android applications, was taken out of service from 11pm on Saturday evening through to the end of Sunday. This planned outage was intended to facilitate significant technological upgrades to the lottery's digital infrastructure.

However, according to reports from monitoring service Downdetector, the disruption has persisted into Monday morning, preventing numerous players from accessing their accounts, checking results, or claiming prizes through digital channels.

Alternative Access Points Remain Available

Despite the ongoing digital issues, The National Lottery has confirmed that players can still purchase tickets at over 43,500 retail outlets nationwide. Furthermore, results and detailed prize breakdowns continue to be accessible through YouTube broadcasts and at physical retail locations.

Winnings from retail-purchased tickets valued up to £500 can be claimed in-store as usual, providing some continuity for regular participants during this period of digital disruption.

Significant Technological Transformation Underway

Operator Allwyn has indicated that this outage forms part of a comprehensive digital transformation programme, representing the most substantial technological upgrade in The National Lottery's 31-year history. Similar maintenance was previously conducted in late July, during which sales and payouts were paused for approximately 36 hours.

Once services are fully restored, players will encounter several interface improvements, including a redesigned payment screen and streamlined processes for checking results, playing games, and claiming prizes.

Enhanced User Experience Promised

Allwyn has committed to making the platform even simpler to navigate, with comprehensive video guides and frequently asked questions available to help users adapt to the new system. App users with automatic updates enabled will receive the new version seamlessly, while others will be prompted to update upon their next login.

Andria Vidler, Chief Executive of Allwyn, emphasised the strategic importance of these upgrades, stating: "These much-needed digital upgrades mark another milestone in our transformation to make The National Lottery more player-focused, with new games, more winners, and greater support for Good Causes."

Long-Term Strategic Objectives

The current technological improvements form part of Allwyn's ambitious long-term strategy to significantly increase contributions to charitable causes. The operator aims to double weekly returns to Good Causes from £30 million at the beginning of their licence period to £60 million by 2034.

Vidler added: "This is just the beginning of an exciting year for Allwyn and The National Lottery, as we work towards our ambitious goal to double weekly returns to Good Causes."

While the extended outage has undoubtedly caused inconvenience for digital users, The National Lottery maintains that these temporary disruptions are necessary to deliver a more robust, user-friendly platform that will ultimately benefit both players and the charitable organisations supported by lottery funding.
