13 UK Travel Companies Collapse: Holidays Cancelled

Groupia Ltd, a UK travel company specialising in group trips including hen and stag dos, weekend adventures, spa days and ski trips, has entered administration, cancelling future bookings and leaving thousands of customers uncertain. The company, which also traded as Groupia Golf, GoHen, StagWeb, Groupia School Trips and Company Away Days, appointed Nigel Fox and Christopher Marsden of S&W Partners LLP as joint administrators on June 16, 2026.

What Happens to Existing Bookings?

According to the company's website, the firm has ceased taking new bookings. For customers with events or holidays scheduled on or before August 31, 2026, the UK government-approved travel protection scheme ABTOT has arrangements in place, and these events are expected to go ahead as planned. However, for any bookings from September 1, 2026 onwards, the website states: "Your event will unfortunately be cancelled and is subject to a refund claim."

Background of Groupia Ltd

Although Groupia officially came into existence in 2002, its concept began taking shape years earlier. On its about page, the company stated: "In 1999, Groupia's founder Simon Denning found himself staring down the barrel of a Best Man invitation, having little luck in finding a quality travel provider that could deal with different-sized groups and deliver high levels of customer care. One happy wedding, a funny wedding speech and some questionable wedding dancefloor moves later, StagWeb was born. Since then, over 750,000 clients have travelled with us and the Groupia family has grown to incorporate." The firm was widely celebrated for making group travel considerably simpler to organise and book, while remaining at a very reasonable price.

Impact on Customers and the Travel Industry

The collapse of Groupia and other travel companies has left many holidaymakers scrambling for refunds and alternative arrangements. ABTOT, the travel protection scheme, is handling claims for affected customers. The wave of administrations highlights ongoing challenges in the UK travel sector, including rising costs and changing consumer behaviour.
