The hospitality sector has been dealt another significant blow as Bistro Live, a major restaurant chain with a Midlands presence, has permanently closed all of its establishments. This decision comes merely months after the business was rescued from administration in a deal that initially appeared to safeguard its future.
Final Curtain for Celebrated Chain
Bistro Live has confirmed the immediate and permanent closure of its three remaining sites located in Nottingham, Leicester, and Milton Keynes. The chain, which had been operating for a quarter of a century, shared the sombre announcement directly on its official website.
The statement expressed profound regret, noting: "After much reflection, and with very heavy hearts, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to permanently close Bistro Live after 25 unforgettable years." It went on to cite the ongoing economic challenges facing the UK hospitality industry as the primary reason for the shutdown, rendering continued operation impossible.
A Short-Lived Reprieve
This closure follows a pre-pack administration deal completed in October 2025 by FM Hospitality. That intervention was hailed as a victory for the high street at the time, preserving over 100 local jobs across the chain's locations. However, this optimism proved to be fleeting.
Management has now conceded that, despite their best efforts, they could no longer sustain the business. A spokesperson indicated that the persistent cost-of-living crisis severely dampened consumer spending, a critical factor in the chain's ultimate failure.
Underlying Financial Pressures
Reports suggest that a combination of rising operational costs and the lasting financial repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic led to the chain's sudden collapse. While lockdown restrictions are long gone, the company was reportedly burdened by significant debt accumulated during that period.
Although the group attempted a recovery post-restrictions, cash flow evaporated as customers themselves began to feel the economic pinch. Leaked financial figures from the year ending October 2024 paint a stark picture of the pre-existing troubles, revealing the company was already in a precarious financial state.
Those accounts showed the firm's debts exceeded its assets by approximately £192,000, despite carrying substantial liabilities of around £810,000 for equipment and property.

In its closing message, Bistro Live extended heartfelt thanks to its loyal customer base. The statement reflected on the shared experiences: "To every customer who danced on our tables, celebrated milestones with us, supported us through the years or recommended us to friends, … thank you.
