Visitors to Birmingham's famous German Christmas Market this year are in for a uniquely British treat, thanks to a stunning new attraction that combines festive spirit with hearty cuisine.
A Feast Inside a Giant Tree
Standing proudly on Centenary Square, outside the library and near the ice rink, is a colossal Christmas tree. But this is no ordinary fir. Concealed within its base is a fully functioning carvery and grill, offering a warm alternative to the traditional German market fare.
The stall, which has a whimsical design reminiscent of The Nutcracker ballet, is serving up hot roast pork with stuffing rolls for £9. For those seeking a different taste, bratwursts are also available for £7.
The Full Menu and Prices
The carvery tree offers a dedicated menu for hungry festive shoppers. Alongside the signature pork rolls, visitors can enjoy:
- Chips for £5
- 'Piggie Fries' – chips loaded with pork and coleslaw
- Beef burgers for £7
- 'Whole Hog' beef burgers topped with pork and coleslaw for £10
It's worth noting that prices here are slightly higher than at stalls further down on New Street, where chips are reportedly £1 cheaper.
More New Attractions for 2025
The giant carvery tree isn't the only novelty in Birmingham this festive season. Over at Cathedral Square in Pigeon Park, a separate market called Christmas on Cathedral Square opened on Friday, October 7.
This market also features an innovative tree, adorned with giant baubles that visitors can actually sit inside for a unique, elevated view of the square.
Meanwhile, the main German Market will remain open for visitors to enjoy until Christmas Eve, December 24, offering plenty of time to experience this new culinary highlight beneath the boughs.
