After 43 years of serving the community, the popular Pakistani restaurant Kababish has permanently closed its doors at its Moseley location. This marks the end of an era for a beloved Birmingham institution that has been a favourite haunt for countless residents and celebrities alike.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Loyal Patrons
In a moving announcement, a spokesperson for Kababish expressed deep gratitude to all customers who have supported the restaurant over the decades. "To every single customer who walked through our doors, supported us, laughed with us, and made us part of your lives: thank you," the statement read. "Your loyalty and love have kept us going for over four decades, and we will forever be grateful."
Celebrity Connections and Memorable Moments
Throughout its long history, Kababish attracted numerous famous faces from the worlds of music, comedy, and sports. The restaurant welcomed pop icons Robbie Williams and Noel Gallagher, comedian Don Maclean, and cricket legends including Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, and Michael Atherton.
One particularly memorable event occurred during the restaurant's 25th anniversary celebration, when owners Sydd Sadiq, Saj Shafique, and Mo Farooq reverted to their original 1983 prices and encouraged customers to donate the difference to charity. This generous gesture resulted in a £2,000 donation to the Birmingham Mail charity Trust.
Sutton Coldfield Location Continues Operations
While the Moseley chapter has concluded, Kababish fans can continue to enjoy their favourite dishes at the Sutton Coldfield restaurant on Jockey Road. This sister location, which opened in 1988, remains fully operational and ready to serve both existing and new customers.
The closure has sparked an outpouring of nostalgia on social media, with one customer commenting: "End of an era, thank you for all the memories." Many have shared personal stories and photographs from their visits to both locations over the years.
A Legacy of Community and Cuisine
Kababish first opened in Moseley in 1983 on Woodbridge Road, quickly establishing itself as a cornerstone of the local dining scene. The restaurant became known not just for its authentic Pakistani cuisine but also for its warm atmosphere and community spirit.
The owners have encouraged former Moseley customers to continue their patronage at the Sutton Coldfield location, ensuring that the Kababish legacy lives on through continued service and shared memories of good food and good company.
