Leicester Christmas Market in UK Top 20

The Independent has revealed its definitive list of the best Christmas markets in the United Kingdom, and a single East Midlands contender has secured a coveted spot. Leicester's Christmas Market has been ranked 12th in the national top 20, earning recognition as the region's standout festive destination.

Leicester's Festive Showcase

Now in its second year, Leicester's Christmas Market is running on Gallowtree Gate in the city centre from 13 November to 28 December 2025. The market boasts more than 20 individual stalls, offering a diverse range of food, handcrafted gifts, and unique seasonal crafts to visitors.

The market forms the centrepiece of a wider citywide festive programme. This includes a captivating light trail at Abbey Park, a popular real ice rink for skating, and the impressive 35-metre tall Wheel of Light situated in Jubilee Square, creating a comprehensive holiday experience.

West Midlands Favourites Also Celebrated

While Leicester leads for the East Midlands, The Independent's roundup also highlights two major attractions from the neighbouring West Midlands. Birmingham's renowned Frankfurt Christmas Market, famed for its authentic German-style chalets, food, and atmosphere, is featured. It operates from 1 November until 24 December.

Additionally, Worcester's Christmas Fayre earns a place on the list. This shorter, stall-packed event transforms the historic cathedral city's streets into a major shopping destination from 4 to 7 December.

A Benchmark for Festive Quality

The inclusion of these three Midlands markets in a national top 20 underscores their quality and appeal. For Leicester, the ranking is a significant endorsement of its growing festive offering, placing it on the map for seasonal travellers seeking authentic Christmas market experiences within the UK.

The recognition by a major national publication like The Independent is likely to boost visitor numbers and highlights the importance of such events for local tourism and the regional economy during the festive period.
