Two drug dealers who rammed police vehicles using a BMW packed with £300,000-worth of heroin have been jailed. Driver Majid Hussain attempted to escape when officers tried to stop the "suspicious" vehicle in Edgbaston at around 8.15pm on Tuesday, March 3. With his drug associate Sahil Suleman in the passenger seat, Hussain drove away dangerously in a desperate bid to get away.
Desperate Escape Attempt
Despite the BMW's tyres being deflated, Hussain dangerously cut across traffic and overtook other cars. He used the BMW to ram three police vehicles on Portland Road but no officers were injured. Detectives searched the car and found heroin worth an estimated £300,000 in street value inside. Wraps of the Class-A drug were seized along with a number of mobile phones.
Court Sentencing
Hussain and Suleman were both arrested and charged before appearing at Birmingham Crown Court. Hussain, 45, from Smethwick, was jailed for eight years and eight months on Tuesday, June 23 for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, possessing criminal property and dangerous driving. Suleman, 23, also from Smethwick, was locked up for three years for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
Police Statement
West Midlands Police said: "The evidence collected as part of the investigation led by the West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit saw the pair admit to their criminal activity. Drugs not only ruin lives, but fuel further crime. We're taking action day in, day out, to target those involved in drug supply and shut down drug chains. We're running Operation Target as part of our ongoing activity to disrupt and stop serious organised crime."
