A restaurant that opened last July has closed on Birmingham's busy New Street, with a 'warning' sign posted in the window by an enforcement agent.
Navaraza Closure
Navaraza, a Mexican Indian fusion restaurant on New Street, opened last July as a replacement for Zocalo. Now signs in the window state that the landlord has re-entered the premises, advising the restaurant owners that it is illegal to try to gain access without permission.
A second note posted in the window by the enforcement agent, dated May 1, states that the restaurant should contact the owner to arrange to collect property left inside.
Building Ownership
The building has been owned by Sheet Anchor Evolve, which is part of the M Core Group, since January 2026. It announced its ownership of The White House and 5-9 Lower Temple Street on January 20, saying it was part of a 'flurry' of new acquisitions in the region.
It now owns the space currently occupied by shops, restaurants and bars such as Be At One, Archies and Tim Hortons, around 60,000sq ft of space.
Social Media and Other Closures
Navaraza has not posted about the closure on its social media pages and the business was still listed as 'open' on Google at the time of writing. It joins a number of businesses currently closed on New Street including the former Fat Burgers and Eat4Less in the building we coined 'Zombie Quarter' due to limited signs of life and the old time capsule hidden within it.
Next door, a relatively new addition to New Street is preparing for its first summer in the city centre. Amorino opened its new gelateria between Navaraza and Clays this spring. It is hoped that the public realm works outside on New Street will be finished soon, revealing a new space with benches for enjoying a Birmingham city centre summer with ice cream.
