Lloyds Bank Customers Must Act or Risk Blocked Payments in Visa Switch
Lloyds Bank Visa Switch: Act or Risk Blocked Payments

Lloyds Bank customers must update their card details or risk having payments blocked as the bank completes its switch from Mastercard to Visa for approximately 10 million credit cards. The transition, announced in 2024, is set to be fully completed by the end of 2026. Customers are being sent new Visa cards, and their old Mastercards will expire shortly after.

Action Required to Avoid Payment Disruption

Lloyds, which has branches in Birmingham, warned that new card details will not automatically update on apps or websites. Customers must manually update their saved payment information to ensure continued service. “Any payments linked to your Mastercard… will need to be updated with your new Visa card details or your payments may not go through,” the bank wrote in an email to affected customers.

The bank also advised people to update card details stored on any apps or websites to make sure payments “go through smoothly.” Failure to do so could result in rejected transactions for subscriptions, bills, or other recurring payments.

Benefits of the Switch

At the time of the change, Marc Lien, Credit Cards Managing Director at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “Our expanded partnership with Visa brings significant benefits to our customers, offering a seamless way to make payments, in addition to a range of upcoming innovative new products and services. We look forward to sharing the detail of these with customers in the future.”

Mandy Lamb, Managing Director, UK & Ireland at Visa, added: “We’re excited to take our long-standing partnership with Lloyds Banking Group to the next level, building on 40-years working together, delivering solutions that customers use and love. Together we’ll be enhancing the experience for debit card users, whilst launching innovative new products and services for credit card users too. All Visa’s products and services are underpinned by our global commitment to be the best way to pay and be paid, supported by our market-leading £8 billion investment in technology over the past 5 years and our market-leading fraud fighting solutions, meaning fraud levels remain negligible on cards.”

Timeline and Impact

The rollout affects around 10 million cards, with completion expected by the end of 2026. Customers are urged to act promptly to avoid disruption. The switch applies to most Lloyds credit cards, though some may remain on Mastercard. Lloyds advises checking correspondence for individual timelines.
