Marks & Spencer has discontinued its highly popular Salt & Vinegar Mayo, with no plans to bring it back, just ahead of the June, July and August barbecue season. The condiment, which was launched in 2023 and quickly became a fan favorite, has been axed after only three years on supermarket shelves.
Product Discontinuation
The mayonnaise, which featured malt vinegar and cider vinegar, was described as a 'game-changer' by loyal customers. One fan wrote: "It has changed the condiment game forever." Another said they "nearly shed a tear of joy" the first time they tried it. Despite the outcry, M&S has defended its decision, stating it is open to listening to "customer feedback when reviewing future ranges."
Customer Reactions
Shoppers cheekily claimed they were having "sleepless nights" over the product being discontinued, especially with the UK expecting good weather. The news comes as M&S prepares for the summer season, but the beloved mayo will not be making a comeback.
Expanding Lower-Strength Beer Range
In better news for shoppers, M&S is expanding its lower-strength beer range this summer. The retailer is introducing four new own-label beers at 2.8%–3.2% ABV in Foodhalls nationwide. These beers are designed to sit alongside the existing no and low-alcohol range, offering customers greater choice.
Caroline Thompson-Hill, Head of Beers, Wines and Spirits at M&S, said: "We’re seeing a clear shift in how customers think about alcohol. Many people aren’t looking to stop drinking altogether, but they do want more control over how much they drink, particularly during summer when social occasions tend to increase. That’s why we are bringing out four, truly 'sessionable' beers which offer the same great taste, at lower strengths."
The new lower-strength beers will be available nationwide in M&S Foodhalls throughout the summer, M&S has confirmed.
