Poundland to Shutter 13 UK Stores, Starting Tomorrow
Poundland announces 13 store closures across UK

High street discount chain Poundland has confirmed a fresh wave of store closures, with 13 locations set to shut their doors for good in the coming weeks. The first closure is scheduled for tomorrow, casting a shadow over the festive shopping period.

The Final Countdown: Store Closure Dates

The retailer, which has a significant presence in areas like Birmingham, has released the full list of stores facing closure. The first wave of shutdowns begins imminently, with the store in Witham closing on November 12.

This will be quickly followed by closures in Loughborough and Sidcup on November 14. Further closures are scheduled throughout November and December, impacting stores in New Malden (November 16), Peckham (November 20), Dalston (November 24), and Beeston (November 27).

The final closures for 2025 will see the Launceston store shut on November 29 and the Melton Mowbray location close on December 4. The closures will extend into the new year, with the Droitwich store closing on December 9, Hempstead Valley on December 31, and Bexhill on January 5, 2026. A final closure at Cameron Toll is set for January 20, 2026.

Significant Savings in the Final Days

As these stores prepare to close, Poundland has announced a massive clearance sale to shift remaining stock. A company spokesperson stated that customers can expect discounts of up to 40% on all items.

"Customers will be able to take advantage of significant savings as these stores prepare for closure in the days ahead," the spokesperson said. "The reductions will see items marked down in price until they’re sold and cover all the stock in each store from homewares to groceries and clothing to health and beauty."

Looking to the Future

Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s UK country manager, acknowledged the disappointment that closures bring to local communities. He emphasised the company's commitment to offering value until the very end.

"We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers," MacDonald commented. "The special reductions, on top of the value we provide in every store, will help us leave locations we’re leaving with pride."

He also sought to reassure customers, pointing them towards the chain's broader network. "And when we close our doors, we look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK."

This restructuring follows the sale of the Burton upon Trent-founded retailer by its parent company, Pepco Group, to private equity firm Gordon Brothers for a nominal sum of £1 in June 2025. At the time of the sale, Poundland employed approximately 14,700 staff and operated around 800 stores nationwide.
