West Midlands Metro has announced that overhead line equipment upgrades will cause significant service changes next month, with no trams running on a key section of the network for part of the day.
Service Suspension on September 13
On Sunday, September 13, there will be no service between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Edgbaston Village from the start of service until 1pm. The disruption is necessary for what the operator describes as 'essential works' on the overhead line equipment.
During this period, trams will operate only between Wolverhampton Station / Wolverhampton St George’s and Wednesbury Great Western Street. Services between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Millennium Point / Edgbaston Village are expected to resume by 1pm.
Alternative Transport Arrangements
To help passengers during the disruption, ticket acceptance will be available on several alternative public transport services. National Express bus routes 79 (between Wolverhampton and West Bromwich) and 74 (between West Bromwich and Birmingham City Centre) will accept tram tickets, as will all services between Colmore Row and Edgbaston Village.
West Midlands Railway train services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, including stops at Five Ways, will also accept tickets, though only for direct debit or pass holders.
Operator Apology and Advice
A West Midlands Metro spokesperson said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience that these changes to service may cause and appreciate your patience while these essential works are taking place."
Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and check for updates before travelling on September 13.
