Tesco has shaken up its popular Meal Deal in what is being hailed as a global supermarket first. The UK's largest grocer has introduced a new snack option to its lunchtime combination, bringing an iconic Australian chocolate biscuit to the British high street.
The New Aussie Addition
The supermarket giant, which competes with rivals like Sainsbury's, Morrisons, and Aldi, has launched Twin Packs of Tim Tam biscuits as part of its meal deal selection. Branded as Aussie Gold, the Tim Tam Twin Pack Original became available on October 26.
Customers can purchase the twin-pack separately for £1 or include it as their snack choice within the Tesco Meal Deal. This marks the first time the beloved Australian biscuit has been offered in a travel-friendly, two-biscuit format by any supermarket worldwide.
Consumer Demand Drives Innovation
Amber Dutkiewicz, Tim Tam's Market Development Manager for the UK and Ireland, explained the reasoning behind the move. "Tim Tam has proven to be incredibly popular in the UK since our launch last year, and the demand to have Tim Tam in an on-the-go format has been strong," she said.
"We are excited to offer the opportunity to enjoy Tim Tam in a travel-friendly, snack size two biscuit pack format that is also available in the iconic Tesco Meal Deal."
Meal Deal Price Changes
This exciting addition comes shortly after Tesco implemented a 25p price increase on its Meal Deal, the third rise since 2022. The increase reflects the ongoing challenges of rising food costs across the United Kingdom.
The deal now costs £3.85 for Clubcard holders, while customers without a Tesco loyalty card will pay £4.25. This is a significant change from the £3 price point that remained stable for a decade before the first increase in October 2022 during the cost of living crisis.
The price change has generated discussion on social media. One X user described discovering the new Clubcard price as "truly devastating," while another questioned whether it could still legitimately be called a "deal." Despite the increases, Tesco maintains that the combination still offers substantial savings compared to purchasing items individually.
