Tesco Pulls Pork Pie Sandwich from Meal Deal After Short Run

Tesco has announced it is removing a meal deal item from shelves just a couple of months after it was introduced. The 'Pork Pie Inspired Sandwich' was part of a limited run in over 1,000 stores and was scheduled to be available for 10 weeks after its debut in early March.

Limited Edition Sandwich Discontinued

When the sandwich launched, Dave Nicholls, buying manager of food to go at Tesco, said: “We know the nation loves a pork pie, which is why we’ve developed this new Pork Pie Inspired Sandwich. Bringing together classic flavours like piccalilli, cheddar and mustard, it’s a delicious addition to our Meal Deal range, perfectly timed for the start of picnic season or a great way to try something new for lunch.”

Clubcard Vouchers Expiring

Tesco has also confirmed that £17 million worth of Clubcard vouchers are due to expire at the end of May. The supermarket issues Clubcard vouchers every three months—in February, May, August, and November—and they are valid for two years. The vouchers that are set to expire were first issued in May 2024 and will become worthless after 11:59pm on May 31.

Tesco Group Membership and Loyalty Director Shama Wilson said: “This is a big quarter for Clubcard voucher expiry, with more than £17m of vouchers due to expire at the end of May. Using your Clubcard vouchers for discounts on food at one of our restaurant partners, for savings on days out at locations across the UK, towards a railcard, or for savings on hotel bookings are all great ways to save money this half term, so I’d encourage everyone to check their Clubcard account to see if they have any vouchers to use up.”

Free Fruit & Veg for Schools Programme

This news comes after Tesco invited children to create fun fruit and vegetable-packed recipes, with the winning dish served in over 1,500 schools to mark the expansion of its Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme. Only one in ten UK children eat their recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables on a typical school day, with more than a third (37.5%) of parents saying their child refuses fruit and veg altogether, according to new research from Tesco.

To encourage and inspire children to be more adventurous with fruit and vegetables and to celebrate the expansion of its Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, Tesco is launching the Giant Fruit & Veg Challenge. The nationwide competition invites children to dream up their own fruit and vegetable-packed dish, with the winning recipe shared on menus across the UK and in the programme.
