West Bromwich Albion are reportedly keeping tabs on Southampton striker Paul Onuachu as the January transfer window approaches. The 6-foot-7 Nigerian international has found game time hard to come by at St Mary's since joining from Genk in January 2023 for a fee reported to be around £18 million.
Onuachu's Struggles at Southampton
Onuachu, 29, has made just 12 appearances for Southampton in all competitions, scoring only one goal. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor, where he netted once in 11 appearances. This season, he has been an unused substitute in several Premier League matches and has not started a league game.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, a host of Championship clubs are monitoring Onuachu's situation, with West Brom among those keen on securing his services on loan in January. The Baggies are looking to bolster their attacking options as they push for a play-off place under Carlos Corberan.

Alongside West Brom, other Championship sides reportedly interested include Stoke City, Hull City, and Cardiff City. The report suggests that Southampton are open to letting Onuachu leave on loan to gain regular playing time and rebuild his value.

Before his move to England, Onuachu was prolific for Genk in the Belgian Pro League, scoring 85 goals in 164 appearances. His physical presence and aerial ability make him a traditional target man, which could suit the Championship style of play.
However, his lack of game time and form in recent months has raised questions about his ability to adapt to English football. A successful loan spell could be crucial for his career, and West Brom may provide the platform for him to rediscover his scoring touch.
