Spotify Outage Hits 50,000 Users in UK and US on Monday Afternoon
Major Spotify outage disrupts thousands of users

Spotify users across the globe were left in silence on Monday afternoon as the popular music streaming service experienced a significant outage. Thousands of subscribers reported being unable to access their libraries or play music and podcasts.

Widespread Disruption Across Two Continents

The problems began to spike at around 2.30pm on Monday 15 December 2025, according to outage tracking website DownDetector. The site recorded a huge surge in user complaints, with the issue affecting a substantial international user base. Data showed that 10,000 reports were filed from the United Kingdom, while a further 40,000 complaints originated from the United States.

Users primarily experienced problems with logging into their accounts and encountered widespread playback failures. The disruption prompted a flood of frustrated comments on social media, with many lamenting the timing of the outage on a weekday.

Spotify's Response and the "All Clear"

Spotify's status team initially acknowledged the issues at approximately 2.40pm, posting a statement that read: "We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!"

The company then directed affected users to a community support thread for updates and advice. A message on the thread stated: "Hey there, our tech folks are looking into this. If you're experiencing this issue, make sure to give it a like and Subscribe to the thread from the three dots menu to stay tuned. We'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any updates!"

By later in the afternoon, the streaming giant announced that the technical faults had been resolved. The official Spotify account tweeted: "All clear! Thanks for your patience. If you're still having issues, you can find out more on this issue on our Community support thread."

User Frustration and Lingering Problems

Despite the "all clear" announcement, reports on DownDetector indicated that problems persisted for some. At 3.13pm, there were still 338 active complaints logged, although the overall number had begun to decline by 3.34pm.

The outage clearly disrupted the daily routines of countless listeners. One user pleaded online, "Spotify come back! You’re an integral part of my daily routine you can’t just go down like that." Another commented on the unfortunate timing, saying, "Of all the days Spotify chose to be down it had to be a Monday." A third simply stated, "I can't listen to music anymore, please fix it."

While the core service appears to have been restored for the majority, Spotify's advice remains for any users continuing to face difficulties to seek help via their designated community support channel.
