Barratt and David Wilson Homes Staff Brave the Cold for Veterans

In a heartfelt display of solidarity, staff from Chelmsford-based developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties recently took part in the Great Tommy Sleep Out. This event, held at Chelmsford City Racecourse, saw participants spend a night sleeping under the stars to raise vital funds and awareness for veterans struggling with homelessness. The initiative, launched in 2021 by The Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), aims to support ex-service personnel on their pathway back to independence by providing housing, employment opportunities, and essential support services.

Team Effort Raises Significant Funds

Among the 16 employees who participated were head of customer care Sarah Tew and sales manager Harry Noble. Together, the team successfully raised a total of £1,715. All funds collected contribute directly to the ongoing work of the Royal British Legion (RBL), which delivers critical services to thousands of veterans and their families annually. Established in 1921, the RBL is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity, renowned for its annual Poppy Appeal but also providing year-round financial, emotional, and practical assistance.

Leadership Highlights the Importance of Support

Tom Wright, managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, expressed pride in the team's involvement. He stated, "We are incredibly proud to have taken part in the Great Tommy Sleep Out and to do our bit for the veterans who have given so much for us all, supporting them on their way back to independence." He added, "Spending just one night outside was a small challenge for us, but it really brought home the reality that many former service personnel face every day. Supporting charities like the Royal British Legion is vital, and we are pleased to have helped raise both awareness and much-needed funds."
