A popular Birmingham pub is rallying the community to support Jamaica in the wake of a devastating hurricane, aiming to 'give a little back' to the island that has inspired its culture.
Kings Heath Pub to Host Special Fundraising Night
The Station pub on High Street in Kings Heath is transforming its regular weekly reggae night into a one-off charity event this Saturday, December 27. The venue, famed for its 'Jam Jah Mondays', will open its doors from 8pm for a fundraiser dedicated to helping those affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Entry will be via a minimum £5 donation on the door, with all proceeds going directly to relief efforts. The event is being hosted by the Revolution Sound System collective.
The Devastating Impact of Hurricane Melissa
The motivation for the event stems from the catastrophic damage caused when Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica in October. The storm has been recorded as the most powerful to hit the island in modern history.
The human and structural toll has been immense. Official reports confirm a death toll of 45 people, with over 120,000 homes affected. The United Nations estimates the total damage will run into the billions of pounds.
A Night of Music and Solidarity
The fundraiser will be a celebration of the very music and culture Jamaica has gifted the world. Attendees can expect a vibrant musical journey through reggae, dub, and dancehall.
A lineup of talented DJs will be on the decks, with sets from Comrade T, Dani Dub Dub, and Huw R-Conway, all promising an authentic sound.
Organisers captured the spirit of the event in a social media post, stating: "We owe such a lot to Jamaica for music and culture, time to give a little back after the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa."
The Station pub is located at 7 High Street, Kings Heath, B14 7BB.
