Family of Canal Death Victim 'Left with Emptiness'

The family of Chereiss Bailey, whose body was discovered in a West Bromwich canal, say they have been 'left with a huge emptiness' and are raising money for a headstone she 'truly deserves'.

Discovery and Family Tribute

Chereiss Bailey, 36, was found dead in a canal near Ryders Green Road, West Bromwich, on October 7, 2025. Her sister, Chanel Walsh, expressed the family's grief: 'My sister meant more to us than words could ever express, a love so deep, no sentence could truly capture it.'

Fundraising Event for Memorial

To give Bailey a proper memorial, Walsh has organised a family fun day at The Ivyhouse Club in Ivyhouse Lane, Coseley, WV14 9JH, on August 9, running from noon 'until late'. The event features car boot sales, ice cream vans, bouncy castles, a live auction, tombola, raffle, live Deal or No Deal games, a mobile hairdresser, buffet, music, and disco.

Walsh stated: 'We are hoping to raise around £500-£1,000 towards the cost of her headstone and memorial. As a family, any support or donations would mean more than words can say and help us give Cheréiss the beautiful headstone and kerbs she truly deserves.'

Charges and Legal Proceedings

In connection with Bailey's death, John Anslow, 64, has been charged with murder and conspiring to prevent the lawful and decent burial of a dead body. Hayley-Marie Ferguson, 41, faces charges of conspiring to prevent burial and assisting an offender. Both are due to stand trial in August 2026.
