Fashion swap raises £16,845 for Sue Ryder hospice

An Oxfordshire resident has raised thousands of pounds for a healthcare charity by hosting an eco-friendly fashion event in her home. The funds will help support a regional organisation that provides expert end-of-life care and bereavement counselling.

Annual clothing swap celebration

The annual clothing swap celebration was launched to celebrate the life of the organiser's sister, who died seven years ago. The sustainable fundraiser has now generated a combined total of £16,845 to assist local medical teams. People from across the country travelled to attend the weekend boutique experience to trade garments and accessories. The successful drive helped to keep pre-loved clothing items out of landfill sites while encouraging ethical shopping habits.

Celebrating a legacy

The event is held every year around the time of the anniversary of her sister's birthday. The organiser spends 12 months collecting pre-loved fashion items, shoes, and handbags before welcoming guests into her transformed property.

Lottie Jones, the event organiser, said: "Sam and I held swishing parties for years before that to raise money for other charities but since she died, I have continued with the parties to raise funds for Sue Ryder in her memory."

She added: "It’s a lovely positive way to remember her. Our favourite thing to do together was shop in charity shops and she always had such beautiful style and an eye for a bargain, so, it’s a fitting way to remember her and raise funds for Sue Ryder."

Community backing

Guests who attended the busy gathering made individual donations before browsing the large collection of fashion choices. Visitors were also offered a selection of food and drinks throughout the afternoon of shopping.

Lottie Jones continued: "Everyone puts one donation in and takes away whatever they like. The party this year was busy as always with lots of food and drinks on offer." She commented: "It’s my way of giving back to Sue Ryder for the exceptional care they provided for Sam and for us all as a family, for which we are forever grateful."

Lifesaving donations

The local healthcare provider relies heavily on public backing to maintain its specialist nursing facilities. Representatives from the charity have praised the family for their continued efforts to help others facing difficult times.

Ashni Parmar, regional fundraising team manager at Sue Ryder, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Lottie and everyone who supports this special event each year. Raising more than £2,500 is a fantastic achievement, and the funds raised will help Sue Ryder continue to provide expert care and support to people facing death and grief."
