Barefoot Firewalk Fundraiser for Skanda Vale Hospice This May
Brave supporters are being invited to walk barefoot across glowing hot coals to raise vital funds for Skanda Vale Hospice this May. The firewalk event is scheduled for the evening of Sunday, May 3, at the hospice near Saron, Llandysul, and is open to anyone ready to take on this unique and thrilling challenge.
Expert Training and Event Details
Participants will receive expert training from Stephen Morgan of Firewalk Cymru, a seasoned instructor and dedicated hospice volunteer, before attempting to walk across embers glowing at approximately 650°C. The evening begins with registration at 5:30 PM, followed by the firewalk itself at 7:30 PM. After the walk, refreshments will be served, providing an opportunity for participants to share their experiences with friends, family, and fellow walkers.
Participant Experiences and Motivations
Saloni Jain, one of this year's participants, has already expressed feeling like a scared kitten at the prospect of the walk. She said, I may get so scared, I may not walk, but I will find the resilience and I will find the energy, and let go of my fears. Elliot Muir, head of communications at Skanda Vale Hospice, added, A firewalk is one of those things that stays with you. People arrive nervous and leave amazed at what they've just done. It's a brilliant way to push past what you thought you were capable of, and every penny raised goes directly towards caring for local families living with a life-limiting illness.
Hospice Services and Fundraising Goals
Skanda Vale Hospice offers free overnight respite, day hospice, and remote companionship services to individuals across Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire. The hospice receives no statutory funding and relies entirely on donations and fundraising efforts to continue its essential work. Walkers are encouraged to raise a minimum of £175 in sponsorship to support this cause.
Spectator Information and Registration
Friends, family, and spectators are welcome to attend the event to cheer on the walkers, with refreshments available throughout the evening. Spaces for participants are limited, so early registration is strongly encouraged. To register, individuals can visit the hospice's official website or call 01559 371222.
