Veterans Soar in Historic Dakota Flight Thanks to Taxi Charity & Aero Legends
Military Veterans Enjoy Special Dakota Flight at North Weald

A group of British military veterans were given a day to remember, taking to the skies in a piece of living history thanks to a dedicated charity and a generous aviation company.

A Flight Through History

On Tuesday, December 17, seven former servicemen experienced the unique thrill of flying aboard a historic Douglas Dakota aircraft. The special trip was made possible by the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans and the kind support of Aero Legends, who operate the classic plane. The veterans, whose ages spanned from 40 to 92, gathered at North Weald Airfield in Essex for their unforgettable aerial adventure.

The veterans who took part were Chris Langford, Peter Galloway, Peter Gospel, Victor Needham-Crofton, Michael Webb, Mick Gosling, and Roy Cresswell. All served in the post-war period. The event was meticulously planned to ensure everyone, regardless of age or mobility, could relax and fully enjoy the experience alongside comrades and friends.

Creating Unforgettable Memories

The iconic Dakota took to the air, offering the veterans breathtaking views as it flew over Basildon, Thurrock, and Dartford. For many, it was a chance to reconnect with a bygone era of aviation and share stories with a new generation of friends.

The visit was coordinated by Taxi Charity fundraiser Keely Allen, who worked closely with the team at Aero Legends. Keely highlighted the core mission of the charity, stating: "Days out like this are at the very heart of everything the Taxi Charity does. Seeing the veterans sharing stories, laughing together and experiencing something so special was incredibly rewarding." She added, "We are extremely grateful to Aero Legends for their kindness and support in helping us create such a memorable day."

Honouring Service and Sacrifice

Keith Perkins from Aero Legends expressed his pride in being involved. "It was an absolute honour to welcome these veterans to North Weald and offer them the opportunity to fly in our Dakota," he said. "Their service deserves recognition, and we were proud to play a part in giving them a day they will hopefully remember for a long time."

The Taxi Charity for Military Veterans has extended its thanks to Aero Legends and all staff at North Weald Airfield for their generosity and hospitality. The charity, which relies entirely on donations, grants, and sponsorship to fund its vital work, continues to organise outings and support for veterans.
