MND Foundation First Anniversary Raises £350,000

The Motor Neurone Disease Foundation, a new Essex-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND), is celebrating its first anniversary. The charity has successfully raised more than £350,000 during its inaugural year.

Addressing Gaps in Care and Support

Established to identify gaps in care and support for people living with MND and their families across Essex and nationally, the charity also funds carefully selected research projects and works to ensure the voices of the community are heard and acted upon. As part of its commitment to improving care, the charity is working alongside national partners and the NHS to explore developing a Centre of Excellence.

Reducing Travel for Specialist Care

Currently, many people living with MND must travel to London to access the highest standard of coordinated multidisciplinary care. The charity already funds two specialist coordinator nurses, supporting patients in Mid, South, and North Essex. Evidence has shown that coordinated care can significantly improve quality of life and outcomes for people living with the disease.

First Anniversary Celebration

The charity marked its first birthday with a successful Family Fun Day held at Heron Country Club. The celebratory event brought together families from across the region and featured inflatables, softball activities, face painting, and a barbecue. The venue was generously provided free of charge by Heron Country Club, a valued charity partner. The event raised almost £500 while also helping to raise awareness of the condition and the support available to affected families.

Charity Spokesperson Comments

A spokesperson for the charity said: “We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved during our first year. Raising more than £350,000 is only part of the story. Our goal is to listen to the MND community, identify where support is lacking, and act quickly to make a meaningful difference to people living with this devastating disease and their families. We are particularly passionate about improving access to coordinated care in Essex so that people do not have to travel long distances to receive the support they deserve. None of this would be possible without our supporters, volunteers, partners and everyone who has stood alongside us during our first year.”

Upcoming Fundraising Events

The next major fundraising event for the organisation is its Summer Ball on July 11 at The Lawn. More information about upcoming events, fundraising opportunities and the charity’s work can be found at mndfoundation.org.uk.
