Rossendale Rotary Donates to Burnley Sea Cadets for Water Activities
Rossendale Rotary Donates to Burnley Sea Cadets

At a recent meeting, Rossendale Rotary members were captivated by a presentation about the Burnley, Pendle & Rossendale Sea Cadets. The unit, which serves young people aged 10 to 18, offers a dynamic range of activities that build skills and confidence in a safe, supportive environment. It welcomes all, including those with special educational needs, and does not require an interest in joining the Royal Navy.

Activities and Opportunities

Based on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Burnley, the Sea Cadets provide experiences such as sailing, windsurfing, powerboating, rock climbing, camping, and music. Participants can also earn qualifications that are valuable beyond their time with the cadets.

Memorable Trips

The unit organizes trips away from base, including a visit to the HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier, an unforgettable experience for the cadets.

Support Needed

The expansion of this enriching service depends on more adult volunteers and additional funding to improve the unit's headquarters and expand water sports activities. More information and donation options are available at the Sea Cadets website.

Rotary's Contribution

While Rotary cannot address the volunteer shortage, the group has made a donation to help fund additional water-based activities for the cadets.
