Car Dealership Staff Pedal 453 Miles in Epic Charity Spin Challenge
Employees at OC Davies car dealership demonstrated remarkable pedal power by cycling a combined distance of 453 miles on spin bikes, raising an impressive £2,100 for the Wales Air Ambulance. The event celebrated two significant milestones: the dealership's 40th anniversary as a Renault dealer and the air ambulance's 25th anniversary on St David's Day.
Open Day Marks Dual Anniversaries and New Registration Launch
To commemorate these occasions and the March 1 launch of new registration plates, OC Davies hosted an open day at its Cardigan dealership. The 12-hour spin bike fundraiser, running from 8am to 8pm, saw 37 participants cycle the equivalent distance between their three dealerships in Cardigan, Neyland, and Carmarthen—originally targeted at 104 miles. They spectacularly exceeded this goal by achieving 453 miles.
Community Support Drives Fundraising Success
The event attracted over 200 visitors and sold approximately 900 tickets for a grand raffle, with prizes generously donated by local businesses including The Cliff Hotel and Spa, Tom Samways Butchers, U Melt Me, Tonnau, Theatr Mwldan, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, The Queen's Hall, Scarlets, and Swansea City FC. Spin bikes were loaned by Neil Fulstow Fitness Coaching, with additional support from Clive Evans and Clive Davies.
Nicola Lewis from OC Davies expressed pride in the achievement: "We are incredibly proud to have raised £2,102. This fantastic amount exceeded all our expectations and shows just how supportive our community has been."
Inspiring Future Fundraising Efforts
The success has motivated ongoing initiatives, including an Easter egg lucky dip and planned summer outdoor events. Over the years, OC Davies has raised more than £6,600 for the charity, with plans to continue supporting the Wales Air Ambulance.
Emily Bell, Wales Air Ambulance's Regional Fundraising Co-ordinator, praised the effort: "A huge congratulations to the staff at OC Davies, who smashed their original target whilst raising an incredible amount for our charity. Fundraisers like this help us raise the £13 million needed annually to keep our helicopters flying and rapid response vehicles on the road."
The charity's mascot Biggles added to the festivities by taking a turn on the DJ decks, highlighting the community spirit that made the day special.
