Tamworth Teen in Coma After Roof Fall, Family Faces Life-Changing Injuries

A Tamworth teenager is fighting for his life in a coma after sustaining life-changing injuries from a 30-foot fall off a roof. The 17-year-old, identified as Josh, has been unconscious since the accident on May 7, when he landed directly on his back.

Severe Injuries and Induced Coma

Josh suffered a fractured skull, a fractured spine, and swelling on the brain. He remains in an induced coma as doctors monitor his condition. Family friend Elisabeth Hobbs, who is organizing a fundraiser for Josh, shared the devastating news with BirminghamLive.

“Josh is a lovely lad who is nearly 18 and a family-orientated person. He loves animals and is now looking at lifelong injuries. They don’t know the extent and he may never walk again,” Hobbs said.

Uncertain Future and Spinal Surgery

Doctors plan to keep Josh in a coma for several more weeks before attempting spinal surgery. The full extent of his injuries will only be known after the procedure. “No one knows the extent of the injury until that surgery happens,” Hobbs added.

The family has been told to prepare for long-term disability, which could be physical, mental, or both. “The rest of the family are trying to be there with him and are preparing for the worst,” Hobbs said.

Community Support Through Fundraiser

Josh’s mother, who has never asked for help before, is now relying on community support. Hobbs has set up a fundraiser to assist with medical expenses and family needs. “Josh’s mother has never asked for anything and now this is happening, we want to give back,” Hobbs said.

The fundraiser aims to provide financial relief as the family faces an uncertain future. The community is urged to contribute to the cause.
