Tesco Community Champion Ann-Marie Hamson Awarded Mayoral Medal in Lincoln
Tesco Worker Gets Mayoral Medal for Charity Work in Lincoln

Ann-Marie Hamson, a community champion at Tesco Lincoln Extra, has been awarded the Mayoral Medal by the City of Lincoln Council for her outstanding dedication to local good causes. Nominated by the community, Hamson has spent nearly three years organizing charity work, managing a donation budget, arranging fundraisers, and linking up with charities. The award recognizes her tireless efforts to support groups ranging from a cancer charity to a greyhound rescue trust.

Fundraising Achievements

The supermarket has set up a popular book table that raises money for various local organizations. Hamson also runs fundraising activities including static bike challenges, choir concerts, and children's craft sessions. These events helped the store raise more than £8,000 in donations during the first three months of the year. The funding was shared among local groups such as Wragby ChEF, YMCA Lincolnshire, and St Barnabas Hospice.

Historic Civic Medal Tradition

The Mayoral Medals were originally handed out to soldiers returning from the First World War. The council revived the tradition in 1995 to honor up to six people each year who improve local lives. The presentation ceremony took place at the Guildhall, where the mayor awarded the medals. Hamson was nominated by the Lincoln Royal Naval Club, which she regularly supports.
