Willow and Isla Henderson, seven-year-old twins from Shard End, Birmingham, are preparing to cut their knee-length hair for the first time to raise money for charity. The sisters, who have never had a haircut, will donate their locks to the Little Princess Trust on July 25.
Inspired by a TikTok Video
The decision came after the twins saw a TikTok video of a young girl undergoing cancer treatment who had lost her hair. Their mother, Shaunah Henderson, said Willow immediately asked why the girl had no hair. When Shaunah explained that medicine made her hair fall out, Willow replied, “It's okay little girl – I'll give you some of my hair.”
Shaunah said she “burst with pride” at her daughter’s response. Willow continued to talk about donating her hair for months, and after a year, Shaunah knew her child was committed. Her twin sister, Isla, also agreed to the idea.
Charity Fun Day on July 25
The twins will cut off approximately 15 inches of hair each at a charity fun day at Oscott Social Club in Erdington. The event will feature face painting, a bouncy castle, a raffle, and food and drink. Proceeds will support the Little Princess Trust, which provides free real hair wigs to children and young people up to age 24 who have lost their hair due to cancer or other conditions. The trust also funds childhood cancer research.
A Mother’s Pride
Shaunah described her daughters as “cheeky” and “happy.” Both were diagnosed with autism at a young age and were born three months premature. They were nonverbal until about age five, and Shaunah recalled “bursting into tears” when they first began to speak. “They know no different. I couldn't be more proud of them,” she said. “They are so caring and constantly thinking about other people. They just love life.”
Shaunah, who has worked with autistic children, acknowledged challenges but said the family has developed ways to manage emotions. “They are beautiful, loving little girls,” she added.
