Barratt and David Wilson Homes, a local building company, has been honored with the Charity Business Award at the annual Chelmsford 4 Good ceremony, recognizing its outstanding support for community groups across the city. The business was praised for both its financial contributions and hands-on assistance to grassroots organizations.
Celebrating Community Heroes
The Chelmsford 4 Good awards, organized by the local voluntary support group Chelmsford CVS, celebrate businesses that make a tangible difference in the community. Launched in 2014, the initiative encourages firms to dedicate time, skills, and funding to nearby charities. Judges for this year's awards included former mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Jannetta Sosin, who commended the building firm for its unwavering dedication.
Vital Cash for Workshop Project
The housebuilder raised more than £21,000 for its chosen charity of the year, The Men's Shed Chelmsford. This community project, established by Chelmsford CVS in 2016, supports local wellbeing by offering a volunteer-led space where men can connect, learn woodworking skills, and share hobbies like gardening to help reduce isolation.
Praise for Hands-On Help
Sally Medd, volunteer centre and projects manager at Chelmsford CVS, said: “The Chelmsford 4 Good awards allow us to thank businesses that set an example of what it means to be a truly socially conscious company involved in our shared community. This year’s winner of the Charity Business Award not only raises remarkable amounts for its annual Charities of the Year, but also awards grants to local causes in need. Its support goes far beyond simply handing over a cheque. It takes time to understand the charities it supports, building genuine relationships that adapt to each charity’s needs. Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ help is wide-ranging and hands-on, including volunteering days, practical support, and long-term encouragement – all delivered with creativity, humour, and unmatched enthusiasm. It’s a genuine reflection of a company committed for the right reasons.”
Tom Wright, managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “We are honoured to receive the Chelmsford 4 Good Award. Supporting the communities in which we build is incredibly important to us. We’re thrilled that our partnership with The Men’s Shed Chelmsford has helped to offer meaningful support to those in need. The work the charity does in bringing people together, promoting wellbeing, and creating a sense of purpose is truly inspiring. I would like to thank our staff for their efforts in fundraising and volunteering. We look forward to continuing to support initiatives that make a positive difference across Chelmsford.”
The property firm continues to assist local good causes through its ongoing community foundation fund.
