The Boston Borough Council is reintroducing its widely used community skip scheme, providing residents with a complimentary and straightforward method to discard large, cumbersome household items. This initiative is a key component of the council's broader strategy to enhance local environmental quality and actively reduce instances of illegal dumping.
Scheme Details and Launch
Following the success of an initial pilot program, skips will now be available on the last Monday of each month. The first session is scheduled for Monday, June 29, 2026, at St George’s car park in Boston. Operating hours are from 8am until 1pm, though the closure time may be adjusted based on demand throughout the morning.
Residents can dispose of a variety of large household goods, including furniture, mattresses, cookers, dishwashers, and washing machines. Council officers will be on site to assist with unloading and waste management.
Funding and Expansion
The scheme is financed by the Boston Pride in Place Impact Fund, which receives government support to deliver tangible improvements in neighborhoods. Councillor Callum Butler emphasized the importance of the initiative: “Bringing skips directly into our neighbourhoods is a proactive way to support residents in managing their waste responsibly. It not only makes it easier for people to dispose of unwanted items, especially if they do not have transport, but also helps tackle fly-tipping and encourages everyone to take pride in keeping our borough clean.”
Butler added that the scheme will expand into surrounding parishes, with dates and locations to be announced soon. “This year, we’re going even further by extending the scheme into our parishes, so I’d encourage residents to keep an eye out for upcoming dates and locations. It’s a great opportunity to clear out those bulky items you’ve been meaning to get rid of but haven’t had the time or means to take to the recycling centre.”
Eligibility and Restrictions
The community skips are exclusively for Boston Borough residents; trade waste will not be accepted. Hazardous materials such as asbestos, car tyres, oil drums, paint cans, and clinical waste are also prohibited. For more information, residents can visit the official Boston Borough Council website. Boston is located in Lincolnshire.
