North Herts Council Grants Boost Letchworth Sustainability and Wellbeing
Grants Boost Letchworth Sustainability and Wellbeing

North Herts Council has awarded £3,051 in community grants to two Letchworth organisations, boosting sustainability and wellbeing across the town. The funding follows recommendations from the Letchworth Community Forum and is designed to help grassroots groups deliver life-enhancing services directly to residents.

Letchworth Garden Shed CIC Receives £1,551 for Library of Things

Letchworth Garden Shed CIC secured £1,551 to expand its popular "library of things" service. This initiative allows neighbours to borrow household, DIY, and outdoor equipment instead of purchasing new items. The funding will be used to buy additional tools, cleaning equipment, and a portable power station, enabling more residents to access affordable resources while promoting sustainable choices.

Angela Bell, co-ordinator at Letchworth Garden Shed, said: "We're so grateful for this support, enabling the Shed to purchase items that would otherwise be beyond our working budget, that we will now be able share with the whole community. These are appliances our members have told us would make the most difference. Can't wait to get them on the catalogue and in use!"

Caring Herts CIC Awarded £1,500 for Wellbeing Hubs

Caring Herts CIC has been awarded £1,500 towards one of its weekly wellbeing hubs in Letchworth. The hub, held at Norton Methodist Church every Friday morning, supports older residents experiencing loneliness or social isolation. Sessions combine gentle exercise, companionship, and social connection, helping older people stay active, independent, and connected within their community.

Cllr Daniel Allen, executive member for Governance at North Herts Council, said: "Community organisations play an important role in supporting residents and helping strengthen local communities. These grants will help both groups continue providing valuable services locally, supporting projects that improve wellbeing and encourage more sustainable ways of living. The Letchworth Garden Shed is a fantastic local resource - my family has used it many times, and I know how useful it can be."
