Blue Cross Rolleston, an animal rehoming centre in Rolleston, is celebrating two decades of service to the local area by hosting a free community open day on Saturday, August 29. The event, which runs from 10am to 4pm at the centre on Dovecliff Road, DE13 9AU, will offer a wide range of entertainment for families, including children's games, crafts, food stalls, and a bouncy castle.
Dog show and animal demonstrations
The centre will host a community dog show with categories such as Loveliest Lady, Fabulous Fella, and Best Rescue. Rosettes will be awarded to the top six entries in each category, and winners will then compete for the Best in Show title. The event will also feature interactive animal demonstrations, including horse behaviour displays and a veterinary presentation from Pool House Equine Vets.
Equestrian influencer Megumi Ashida will attend as a guest judge for the dog show. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the horses currently at the facility that are looking for permanent homes.
Centre manager celebrates 20-year milestone
Maria Kavanagh, centre manager at Blue Cross in Rolleston, said: “This year is particularly special as we celebrate 20 years of Blue Cross Rolleston, so we’re really looking forward to opening our gates and celebrating with the local community.” She added: “It will be the perfect way to end the summer holidays, with something for the whole family to enjoy. From our community dog show, handmade treats and raffle, to face painting, a bouncy castle and demonstrations, there really will be something for everyone. We’ve had 20 wonderful years at Rolleston and we can’t wait to welcome everyone along to help us celebrate.”
