Officer Attacked During Patrol in Birmingham
West Midlands Police have issued a public appeal and offered a £2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man after a police officer sustained head injuries in Birmingham. The incident occurred on Friday, March 22, at approximately 9:30 PM in the Ward End area of the city.
The officer, a 32-year-old male, was on patrol with a colleague when they were approached by a group of individuals. During the interaction, the officer was struck on the head, causing a wound that required hospital treatment. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home.
Suspect Description and Appeal
Police are searching for a man described as being in his 20s, of slim build, and wearing a dark hooded top and dark trousers at the time of the attack. He is believed to have fled the scene after the assault.
Detective Inspector Tom Lyons of West Midlands Police said: “This was a despicable attack on an officer who was simply doing his job to keep the public safe. We are determined to bring the person responsible to justice and are urging anyone with information to come forward.”
