Police Enforce 36-Hour Dispersal Order in Solihull After Youth Rampage
West Midlands Police have taken decisive action in Solihull town centre by imposing a 36-hour dispersal order following a spate of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage incidents involving youths at the start of the Easter school holidays. The order, which grants officers enhanced powers to move on individuals and groups, came into effect at approximately 8:15 PM on Monday, March 30, and will remain in place until 8:15 AM on Wednesday, April 1.
Community Impact and Police Response
Inspector Mitch Darby from Solihull Police emphasised the severity of the situation, stating, "We can’t tolerate this kind of behaviour which is having a real negative impact on the local community, and this dispersal order gives us the powers to move people on who are causing a public nuisance." He further assured residents that additional officers will be deployed in the area over the coming days to address the ongoing issues.
The police have reported that groups of children and teenagers have been involved in yob behaviour, leading to criminal damage and public disturbances. In an official statement, West Midlands Police said, "We realise the community have been impacted by the incidents which are simply not acceptable, and we want to reassure residents we are taking action."
Enhanced Policing Measures
Under the Section 35 dispersal order, police have been granted extra powers to disperse anyone engaging in anti-social behaviour or causing a public nuisance within the designated area of Solihull town centre. This measure is part of a broader crackdown aimed at curbing the recent surge in youth-related incidents.
The police statement continued, "The people involved, which are groups of youths, are causing issues in the community, and we are determined to stop this happening. Over the next 36 hours, we've put in extra policing powers which will allow us to disperse anyone engaging in anti-social behaviour and causing a public nuisance. We have also increased the number of officers in the area."
