A Stoke-on-Trent man has been imprisoned for nearly five years following a sustained campaign of domestic violence and coercive control against a woman.
A Pattern of Abuse and Intimidation
Andrew Kieron Simmons, 38, of Weston Coyney, was found guilty of multiple offences after a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The court heard how Simmons had subjected his victim to nearly three years of controlling and coercive behaviour.
The specific incident that led to his arrest occurred when he turned up at the victim's address and violently grabbed her by the hair. The following day, he returned and kicked at her front door, causing criminal damage valued at under £5,000, to which he later admitted.
Justice Served After Court Battle
Despite denying all charges in court, the jury convicted Simmons on Monday, November 24, based on the compelling evidence gathered by Staffordshire Police. He was found guilty on three counts: assault by beating, engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour, and intimidating a witness/juror.
Following the hearing, PC Fariyal Riaz, the officer who worked on the case, stated: "Simmons caused widespread physical and emotional harm and has rightfully been imprisoned for his crimes. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to deliver this result for the victim in this case who has shown tremendous courage throughout this investigation."
