Armed police have cordoned off a section of Westwood Road at the junction with Tame Road in Aston, Birmingham, following a suspected stand-off at a property. The incident began early Thursday morning, July 9, with police presence reported from around 12:30am.
Police and Ambulance Services Respond
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the scene, describing it as a "police incident at a private address." A police helicopter and drones have also been observed overhead. BirminghamLive has approached West Midlands Police for comment.
Resident Accounts
A local resident who returned home at 6am told BirminghamLive: "I saw police had locked off the whole road. I spoke to one of the officers and they said it had been here since around 12.30am. Obviously, it is a pretty intense situation if it has been that long."
He added: "We've seen armed police, all types of detectives, unmarked cars, vans. Everything, so the public is wondering what's going on but we haven't really got a clue. Just gotta wait and see."
Speculation of Firearms Involvement
The resident further noted: "From what I've been hearing, I believe it is some sort of stand-off. I did also hear something about firearms, so maybe, but I'm not 100 per cent sure."
Local Businesses Affected
Staff at a Romanian-BBQ restaurant located at the edge of the cordon reported being unsure of the exact events. The cordon has been in place since around midnight, according to locals, disrupting early morning activity in the area.
