A newborn baby girl's body was found in a waste pile at an industrial warehouse in Rowley Regis, prompting an urgent police appeal to locate the mother, who may be in need of medical assistance.
Discovery at Station Road
The body was discovered on Thursday morning, June 25, at a site on Station Road. The waste pile had been transported to the warehouse by a private waste operator, and police believe the child was unknowingly moved on Wednesday, June 24.
West Midlands Police have stated that the waste operator, which serves areas including the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and West Mercia, is not being linked to the baby's death.
Forensic Examination Underway
Forensic examinations are being conducted to identify the baby and determine the cause of death. However, Detective Chief Inspector Kylie Westlake, from the force's Public Protection Unit, emphasized that finding the mother is the 'absolute priority.'
“While we don’t yet know what has happened, what we do know is that there must be a mother out there who is in real need of help − and she is our absolute priority at the moment,” Westlake said.
Police Appeal for Information
Police have been reviewing CCTV footage and contacting hospitals, but they are urging the mother or anyone who knows her to come forward. “I really want to speak to her to make sure she’s OK, and to ensure that she can get the help that she urgently needs,” Westlake added.
“We'll treat information we receive sensitively, and we'd ask for anyone who can help us identify who baby and mother was to come forward. It may be you live near a baby, and their mother, who have unexpectedly not been seen for a number of days.”
Public Assistance Requested
A Major Incident Public Portal has been established to allow people to submit information directly to the police. Authorities are asking anyone with relevant details to assist in the investigation.
