Taz Ulfat, the director of Majestic Conference & Banqueting Hall, has voiced serious concerns about illegal parking that is severely impacting his business operations. Located in a historic building on Witton Lane in Witton, just a short distance from Villa Park, the venue is struggling due to parking issues that have been escalating over time.
Historic Venue Faces Modern Parking Problems
The building housing Majestic Conference & Banqueting Hall has a rich history, originally opening as a tram depot in 1882 and later serving as the Aston Manor Road Transport Museum before its closure due to council budget cuts. Despite its prominence and familiarity to thousands of Aston Villa fans who pass by on matchdays, Taz Ulfat reports that customers are finding it increasingly difficult to park when attending events and celebrations.
According to Ulfat, mechanics from the neighboring Stala Autos are parking customer vehicles illegally on the road, specifically on double yellow lines, which blocks access to his business gate. This obstruction not only hampers entry but also hides the venue's signage, making it challenging for potential customers to locate the establishment.
Impact on Business and Customer Experience
Ulfat emphasized that the parking problem has been worsening year by year, with the mechanics allegedly lacking adequate space for their operations. "We're struggling because of this," he stated. "The cars are blocking our signage, and it's causing a problem for our customers. They can't see our signs because they're hidden by cars and don't know where to find us."
He noted that during Aston Villa games, the mechanics temporarily relocate their parked cars, indicating an awareness of the issue. However, Ulfat claims that despite repeated requests, the mechanics have not heeded his appeals to stop the illegal parking. To illustrate the severity, a Google Street View image from June 2024 shows cars parked on double yellow lines outside the venue, corroborating his complaints.
Response from the Neighboring Business
When approached for comment, Stala Autos acknowledged the issue and committed to improving their parking practices starting from Wednesday, March 25. This response suggests a potential resolution, but Ulfat remains concerned about the ongoing impact on his business and customer accessibility.
