Birmingham Brothel 'Minder' Jailed for One Year After Police Investigation
A man has been sentenced to one year in prison for running two brothels in Birmingham, following an extensive investigation by a specialist police team.
Police Uncover Exploitation in Edgbaston and Digbeth
Officers from West Midlands Police's Birmingham Serious Organised Crime and Exploitation (SOCEX) team discovered Dongping Xiao at an address in Edgbaston in September 2025. Despite his claims of having no involvement in sex work, two women were found at the location, along with property that indicated sexual services were being provided.
In February 2026, the 42-year-old was located at a property on Bradford Street in Digbeth, where again, women and items linked to sex work were present. Police determined that Xiao was acting as a 'minder' for the women, overseeing their activities and ensuring they could continue performing sexual services.
Arrest, Conviction, and Sentencing Details
Xiao was arrested at the scene and later charged with two counts of keeping a brothel. He was convicted and appeared for sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court on April 15, 2026, where he received a one-year jail term.
Police Reaction and Commitment to Tackling Exploitation
Reacting to the sentencing, PC Porter from the SOCEX team stated: 'The fact that Xiao has been sent to prison shows our commitment to protecting vulnerable people and tackling exploitation.'
He added: 'Hours of evidence building and analysis of phones went into this investigation, as we were able to prove his involvement in the operation of premises linked to sexually exploiting women. Outcomes like this send a clear message that this kind of activity will not be tolerated, and we remain absolutely committed to tackling violence against women and girls, protecting those who are vulnerable and bringing offenders to justice.'
