Birmingham Officer Injured in High-Speed Chase

A police officer was injured and a man arrested after a van driver led officers on a dangerous high-speed pursuit through Birmingham on Sunday, May 10.

West Midlands Police spotted a transit van driving through a red light on Chester Road in Streetly and attempted to stop it. The driver failed to comply and fled at dangerous speeds through the city.

The van eventually came to a stop before ramming multiple vehicles, including a police car. One officer sustained injuries in the incident, police confirmed.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding, dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of a knife, driving whilst disqualified, and drink/drug driving. He was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting two police officers while being booked into custody.

Following a search of the transit van, weapons including a machete were recovered, along with multiple bags of suspected class A and B drugs. The suspect remains in police custody.

Police are currently running Operation Target against a range of serious and organised crime offences.
