Birmingham Pawnbrokers Increase Security Measures Following Audacious Ram Raid
A Birmingham business has significantly enhanced its security protocols in the wake of a daring ram raid that targeted a pawnbrokers on Soho Road in Handsworth. The incident, which occurred on April 16 at approximately 12:30 PM, saw thieves use a silver Peugeot 207 to smash through the front of H&T Pawnbrokers, making off with substantial quantities of jewellery.
Police Investigation Ongoing with No Arrests Yet
West Midlands Police have confirmed that, as of one week following the attack, no individuals have been apprehended in connection with the robbery. The force has launched a comprehensive investigation, appealing to the public for any additional information or dash-cam footage that could aid in identifying the perpetrators. A spokesperson stated, "We were called to Soho Road just before 12.30pm after a car smashed through the window of the jewellers. A large amount of jewellery was stolen before the offenders fled the area."
The getaway vehicle was later discovered ablaze in Merryhill Drive, Hockley, and has been forensically examined by authorities. Police are urging witnesses to come forward by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously.
Enhanced Security Measures Implemented Locally
In response to the brazen attack, H&T Pawnbrokers has installed new bollards at its premises over the past few days, as reported by the Soho Road Business Improvement District. This move aims to prevent similar incidents in the future. Additionally, neighbouring businesses are taking proactive steps to bolster their own security. The manager of Kiran Jewellers, located nearby, expressed shock and concern, noting, "It was shocking and scary. The price of gold is so high. We've been here ten years and have a lot of security. We are looking to get bollards put in."
The manager further explained that they are expediting the application process for installing bollards as a preventive measure, highlighting the heightened anxiety among local retailers following the incident.

The ram raid was captured on both CCTV and mobile phone footage, which has circulated widely online, showcasing the audacity of the thieves. The footage depicts the Peugeot reversing at high speed into the storefront, enabling the raiders to swiftly loot jewellery from the damaged premises before fleeing the scene.
