Two men and a teenage boy from Birmingham have been sentenced for robbing a 15-year-old boy outside a Telford railway station. The trio stole the victim's phone and jacket before assaulting him.
Court Appearance
Jakub Rochelle, 20, of Minstead Road, Ricky Evans, also 20, of Alcester Road, and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named due to his age, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court on May 1. They had all pleaded guilty to robbery.
Details of the Robbery
Prosecutor Chris O'Gorman told the court that the victim was heading towards Telford Central station with another boy at around 6.15pm on October 28 last year. The three defendants, part of a group of five drinking alcohol in the town centre, began following the two boys. They chased them, and while one boy escaped, Rochelle caught up with the other near an alleyway by the station.
Rochelle grabbed the victim, pushed him against a fence, and forced him to empty his pockets. The other two defendants then joined him. They took the boy's phone and Canada Goose jacket before Evans punched the victim seven times, with the others joining the assault.
Arrest and Previous Offences
Police were called, and officers arrested Rochelle at the station while he was still wearing the stolen jacket, after the victim identified him. The other two were arrested shortly afterwards. Rochelle also admitted a similar robbery in Walsall on May 26 last year, where he and another man stole a bracelet from a couple. Both Evans and Rochelle had previous convictions and were in breach of court orders: Evans on a suspended sentence and Rochelle on a conditional discharge.
Sentences
Judge Anthony Lowe sentenced Rochelle to three years in jail: two years for the Telford robbery and breaching his order, and one year consecutively for the Walsall offence. Evans received 30 months in jail, including 12 months for breaching his suspended sentence. The 17-year-old was given a two-year youth rehabilitation order, 15 probation rehabilitation days, and six days on an alcohol awareness programme.
