Birmingham Van Chase: Officer Injured, Man Arrested

A police officer was injured and a 35-year-old man arrested following a dramatic pursuit through Birmingham streets in the early hours of May 10.

Incident Details

West Midlands Police officers attempted to stop a transit van on Chester Road after it was spotted driving through a red light shortly after midnight. The driver failed to stop and sped away, continuing at dangerous speeds through the city.

The chase ended when the van stopped, then was driven into several vehicles, including a police car. One officer sustained injuries during the incident.

Arrest and Charges

A man was arrested on suspicion of wounding, dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of a knife, driving whilst disqualified, and drink and drug driving. He was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting two officers while being booked into custody.

Seized Items

Following a search of the van, officers recovered weapons including a machete, along with multiple bags of suspected class A and class B drugs.

The 35-year-old remains in police custody while investigations continue.
