Man's Body Discovered in Council Wheelie Bin in Coventry Park
The body of a man has been found in a council wheelie bin in a Midlands park, with police investigating the possibility he was hit by a vehicle before being placed there. The grim discovery was made in Cash's Park, near Daimler Road in the Daimler Green area of Coventry, at approximately 5pm on Friday, March 13.
Discovery and Initial Investigation
A member of the public alerted authorities after finding the man's body in a Coventry City Council wheelie bin with a distinctive green lid. The victim is believed to be aged between 40 and 50 years old and has not yet been identified by officials.
West Midlands Police have confirmed they are working closely with the local authority to trace the origin of the bin and understand how it came to be in the park. A police spokesperson stated, "It's believed he may have been hit by a vehicle before being moved to the park. We are carrying out urgent enquiries to establish who the man is, and where and how he died."
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole, from the West Midlands Police Major Crime Unit, emphasized the urgency of the investigation. "We are keeping an open mind, but we believe that this man has been hit by a vehicle, and then has been moved to the park," he said.
DCI Poole issued a direct appeal to the public: "I urgently want to hear from anyone who believes they may have hit someone in their car yesterday, or who has noticed a change in behaviour from someone they know who drives, or who has noticed damage to a vehicle. It's vital that we trace that person as quickly as possible so that we can get their account of what happened."
He also requested information from residents who may have had a wheelie bin with a green lid stolen from the area. Officers remain at the scene conducting further enquiries as part of the ongoing investigation.
How to Assist the Investigation
Anyone with information, dashcam footage, or CCTV recordings from the vicinity of Cash's Park or surrounding areas is urged to contact West Midlands Police immediately. The public can reach out via the non-emergency number 101, quoting log reference 4148 of March 13.
This tragic incident has shocked the local community, and authorities are committed to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the man's death. The investigation continues as police work to identify the victim and determine the exact sequence of events that led to his body being found in the park.
