A devoted mother from Bristol has been hailed as a hero after sacrificing her life to protect her child during a house explosion. Joanne Shaw, known to friends and family as Jo, died in the blast that occurred on Sunday, May 3, at a property on Sterncourt Road in Frenchay.

Authorities believe that Joanne’s ex-partner, Ryan Kelly, who also perished in the explosion, broke into the property and detonated an explosive device.
