Birmingham Brothel Boss Receives Suspended Prison Sentence
Zhong Wang, aged 44, has been sentenced after pleading guilty to operating illegal brothels from massage parlors in Erdington and Sutton Coldfield. The case concluded at Birmingham Crown Court, where Judge Sarah Buckingham presided over the proceedings.
Details of the Illegal Operations
Wang was arrested in the Gay Village in June 2025, found with £4,500 in cash and suspicious items in his Mercedes, including condoms, baby oil, mobile phones, SIM cards, and brochures advertising sexual services. Police later raided his address at Golden Eagle Gardens in Erdington, uncovering his involvement in running brothels at Rainbow Thai Spa on Gravelly Lane, Erdington, and Thai Oriental Spa on Jockey Road, Sutton Coldfield.
Investigations revealed that women were living on the premises, eating and sleeping there while providing sexual services for payment. When questioned, these women gave rehearsed answers, denying knowledge of Wang.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Wang pleaded guilty to two counts of keeping a brothel and one count of possessing criminal property. At a prior hearing, Judge Buckingham noted that his case initially did not meet the two-year threshold for a suspended sentence, prompting further inquiries into his employment history at Genting Casino in Birmingham and character references submitted on his behalf.
On Thursday, March 5, 2026, Wang was sentenced to 23 months in prison, suspended for two years. Additionally, he must complete 20 days of rehabilitation activity and 100 hours of unpaid work. The court has also initiated Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) proceedings, with a hearing scheduled for June to address financial aspects of the case.
Police Actions and Related Cases
Following the investigation, both massage parlors involved in Wang's operations were shut down by police. In separate incidents later in 2025, not connected to Wang, authorities also closed Dragon Phoenix Massage on Hatchford Brook Road, Solihull, and Shangri La on Bishops Way, Four Oaks, as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities in the region.
