CCTV of Stafford Stabbing Suspect Released by Police

Police investigating a stabbing that left a man fighting for his life have released CCTV footage of a man they have identified as a suspect. The victim, in his 60s, was attacked on a public footpath through The Castle Golf Club course in Stafford shortly before 7pm on Thursday, May 14. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Attempted Murder Investigation

An attempted murder investigation is underway. The suspect is described as a man in his mid to late 20s, of average build, and wearing dark clothing. Police believe he may be of Eastern European heritage. Detectives are working to establish a motive for the attack.

CCTV Footage Released

Staffordshire Police have released CCTV footage showing a man believed to be the suspect running up and down a residential street in the Castlefields area of Stafford. He is wearing a black coat with the hood up, navy blue trousers with a white stripe down the side, and black trainers. Police say the footage was taken moments after the stabbing.

Officers are urging anyone who recognizes the man or saw him that evening to contact them urgently. A police spokesperson said: "Detectives investigating an attempted murder in Stafford have released CCTV footage of a man thought to be the suspect. The CCTV is from the Castlefields area at around 7pm on Thursday, May 14 shortly after the attack took place. His behaviour at the time is significant as he was seen running away from the scene."

Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald, the senior investigating officer, said: "This remains a fast-moving investigation, and we are progressing a significant number of enquiries. The response from the community has been tremendous and I am grateful to everyone who has already contacted us with information. Anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, should contact us as it could be an important part of the investigation. The victim remains in a stable but critical condition so it's vital we identify this male as soon as possible."

Specialist officers are carrying out extensive enquiries including forensic examination, CCTV trawls, and detailed searches. An increased police presence remains in the area.
