Detectives have issued new CCTV images of a man wanted in connection with a stabbing on a Stafford golf course. The victim, in his 60s, was left fighting for his life after being knifed from behind by a stranger at the golf course in Newport Road at around 6.36pm on Thursday, May 14.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and discovered the victim collapsed on a bench. He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Police Appeal for Information
Detectives investigating the attempted murder have now issued CCTV images of the suspect wanted over the attack. A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "Detectives investigating an attempted murder have released further CCTV images of a man they believe is the suspect. The clearer footage was provided by members of the public following an appeal we shared last night."
The images, from May 14, show the man before the attack at 6.36pm and then in a nearby street after the attack at 7pm. "We are now interested in anything from Newport Road towards the Highfields area. Detectives continue to appeal for information to identify the man and ask that anyone who saw him or has CCTV they have not yet shared to do so."
A 30-year-old man arrested last night on suspicion of criminal damage and public order offences remained in custody tonight.
Investigation Update
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald added: "Our investigation is moving at pace and I want to thank those members of the public who have already helped us. The clearer CCTV we are releasing today was provided because of earlier appeals, which shows the real difference the community can make. But we still need your help to identify the man and would ask anyone who recognises him to get in touch as even the smallest detail could prove significant."
He continued: "We understand the impact this violent attack has had within the community and that it can impact feelings of safety. Local officers remain in the area to offer support, and the scene remains in place as a specialist search team continues their work."
